The story
Born in Galicia: the great 'empanada gallega' has been pilgrim provisions on the Way of St. James since the Middle Ages — it is even carved in stone on the famous portal of Santiago Cathedral. With the Spaniards, the pastry travelled to Latin America and was reinvented in every country. 'Empanar' simply means: to wrap in dough. With us: two pieces, baked crisp.
